Parent's Voice and Choice

The Board's Responsibility to Parents -

LISTEN to parents' concerns, DISCUSS the concerns, and WORK with parents toward solutions.

The last couple years showed that Colfax's current board is not interested in what parents have to say.

*In 2021 the school board voted to change the amount of time a community member could speak, from 5 minutes to 3 minutes.

*Individuals who arrived less that 5 minutes before a board meeting were not allowed to speak.

*Board members would not engage with speakers except to tell them their time was done.

*Rather than thanking parents for coming, the board president chided parents for not coming to past meetings.

As a board member, the most important part of each board meeting is hearing from the citizens we serve. I will advocate for each community member's right to speak, and personally invite parents, grandparents, and the community to address the school board regarding any issue pertinent to the board.

Parents don't just get a voice, they also have the right to be informed and the right to make choices in the best interest of their children. It is the school boards' responsibility to keep admin accountable in making sure parents are informed and supported.
